Hongye Wang

(PhD Student, 2016 - Present, Masters Student, 2014 - 2016)

Hongye is a first year PhD student, having recently completed her Master's degree with the Brain Dynamics Lab.  She is interested in brain dynamics explored by functional neuroimaging data such as EEG and fMRI.  Her Master's work focused on investigating the effect of Scrabble expertise on healthy brain aging.

Alison Heard

(PhD Student, 2014 - Present)

Ali is a PhD candidate co-supervised by Dr. Penny Pexman in the Language Processing Lab. Her
research focuses on investigating the role of motor information and she is currently using EEG
to study how task demands modulate this process. In her spare time she likes to read, be outdoors with her dog, and do pretty amazing Donald Duck impressions.

Julie Aitken

(Masters Student, 2016 - Present)

As a geophysicist, Julie Aitken brings a wealth of experience in terms of the processing and interpretation of geophysical data from seismic exploration across western Canada, to ground penetrating radar surveys conducted at a number of Maya ruins in Belize, Central America.

Her Master’s research, co-supervised by Elise Fear, will entail the development of geophysical signal processing and analytic tools to provide more effective information extraction from EEG recordings, specifically addressing brain variability.

Maria Taylor

(Masters Student, 2017 - Present)

Maria is in the first year of her Master's program. Her Master's research will involve the investigation of resting state brain patterns using fMRI, in patients with Major Depressive Disorder. She is hoping to figure out how brain network properties and age affect treatment response.

Matt Szostakiwskyj

(Research Analyst, 2017 - Present)

Matt is studying how brain network dynamics change in the context of expertise and neurological disorders. He has a Master's degree in Evolutionary Biology, and a flair for graphic design - he expertly Photoshopped all the sassy signs around the lab.
